Dogs from MARS

I just love the rescue organization where we got Darby and Thoven and wanted to do something for the other dogs that find themselves waiting for their forever family. I figured a nice photo on the website might help someone notice the a dog they otherwise might miss so I volunteered to take photos for Midwest Animal Rescue Service (MARS). Each of these dogs is in foster care and still looking for their forever home so if you find one that you think is the perfect fit for your family use the link above to get to the MARS website where you can fill out an application.

First up was Copper. He came out to the house for his photo shoot but spent most of his time here checking out the smells from our dogs (who then spent the night sniffing everything for signs of Copper). I think I should shoot away from home in the future.

On Friday I got an email telling me a transport of dogs was arriving Saturday night and they would all need photos. I spent last night getting to know this fantastic group of dogs. I'm struggling to rember the names of some of the dogs I met last night but will update this post with names as soon as possible.

Bones, a Yellow Lab mix, was the first one leaving with his foster family so our time together was very brief but isn't he a beauty? [ADOPTED]

Chalet, a Shepherd / Beagle mix, is all puppy who really didn't want to pose for photos... but would rather play. Or, even better yet, run! Thank goodness the foster home had two boys the perfect age for this playful puppy! [Adopted]Buster, is a gorgeous male Australian Shepherd who was badly in need of some TLC to take care of the mattes that had been allowed to take over his coat. His eyes really caught my attention as they are each a different color.
Bigsby is coon hound and MARS was surprised to find out Bigsby is a girl so her foster family will be renaming her in light of this news. However, you'll still be able to find her under the name "Bigsby" on the MARS website. [ADOPTED]
I think her foster dad is quite smitten already.Betsy, a Beagle/Hound mix, was quiet and observant. She wasn't into the whole rescue scene and seemed quite happy to leave with her foster family. [ADOPTED]
More puppies! These three little Beagle mix boys were quite adorable and entertaining.Mikey is the smallest and bossiest of the Beagle mix puppies. Nothing boring about this little guy. [ADOPTED]Mikey and Petey had a quick little wrestling match as I switched puppies to photograph.Petey is another one of the Beagle mix puppies. His coat was very unique and looked like the coat of a red heeler. Micky, the third of the Beagle mix boys has the coolest phantom of the opera face! I could photograph him all day. [ADOPTED]

Libbie came in with her brother, Marten. They are both Flat-coated Retriever / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mixes. Libby, the smaller of the two, was very quiet and seemed quite overwhelmed with the chaos of the rescue center. It was hard to take photos since she wanted to crawl in my lap more than stand out in the yard on her own. Notice how she kept looking back towards the shelter? I think she wanted to get back inside with her brother.

Her eyes are simply stunning! She did need a good brushing and bath and should look like a new girl once her foster family has a chance to groom her.Libbie looked much more relaxed towards the end of the evening when there were only a few dogs left and her brother was in her view. [ADOPTED]
Marten is Libbie's brother and also a Flat-coated Retriever / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix. He is a wonderfully calm and confident dog who just seemed to be needed a good grooming session to bring out his gorgeous side.

It didn't take Marten long to make friends.
Mopsey is a female Shepherd / Collie mix that I found to be a heart stealer. [ADOPTED]
That tail is simply amazing!
Loved her focus on hand signals.
The last dogs to go home were a pair of Red Heelers. Despite spending the day in transport and three hours in the rescue playroom they remained calm, happy and engaged with each person who came through the center.
Kylie is a female Red Heeler who is as sweet as can be.
Caya is another female Red Heeler and equally as sweet as Kylie. Please help these wonderful dogs find their forever homes. If you know anyone in Minnesota looking for a dog let them know about MARS and feel free to link them to this site to check out a few of the available dogs.

Sue, I think you DO NOT need a pet photography class, and these photos prove it! (But I hope you enjoy it just for FUN!)

Sue, your shots are absolutely stunning. I think you did such a fantastic job getting to know and capturing the spirit and very best qualities of each one of these babies. Im sure your photos will be a huge help in finding the forever homes that each one of these deserve. Without a great photo, who would know how beautiful they really are.
What a great cause to work with.

What an awesome thing you are doing Sue... you really have a way with animal/dog photos. You bring out their positive personality traits and allow them to SHINE!!! Bet it's incredibly hard not to want to keep them all! Extra hugs to you my friend.
