Thursday Restaurant Review - Duplex Restaurant and Wine Bar

This week the restaurant I chose was the Duplex Restaurant and Wine Bar. We had eaten here in April but it was too chilly to take advantage of the seating on the veranda so, with the beautiful weather yesterday, it was time to go back. We arrived at 5:00 pm and were able to park for free on the street right in front of the restaurant. Since they were just opening for dinner, we were the first customers and grabbed the veranda table right next the the railing. Great people watching! They have an good beer and wine menu so Greg and I both had a beer before dinner. I thought the weather demanded a Blue Moon with a slice of orange. Refreshing! We started our meal with the nosh plate which had a wonderful selection of artisan cheeses, fruit, charcuterie, and crackers. We combined this with the complimentary bread and herbed butter for a bit more variety. Greg was tempted to move on to the zesty carrot ginger soup but instead went with the duck sloppy joe with sweet potato fries and lemon aioli. He said more than once that the fries were the best sweet potato fries he'd ever had. Sweet potatoes are on the long list of foods that I don't eat but I bravely tried a small piece and didn't spit it out - lol!!!! I had the dirty rice with house made sausage, shrimp, red and green onions, sweet corn, tomatoes and cumin. It was flavored beautifully. To finish the meal, we split the house made chocolate torte with strawberries and créme fraiche. Totally worth the indulgence!!!! Our waitress was charmingly spunky and made the meal even more enjoyable! It was a lovely evening and a lovely meal! We will be back!

Yum, you are making me hungry. What a darling restaurant, and sounds like it will be one you go back to. Be brave and try those fries...you wouldn't even know they were sweet potatoes.
Enjoy your weekend.
