It's a new day in America

As the mother of a bi-racial daughter, my heart is overwhelmed with the possibilities that have just become her reality. The election of Barack Obama tonight has made it possible for me, along with parents of all minority children, to say with conviction that you, my precious daughter, could grow up to be president of the United States!!!!! I am truly humbled and proud to be part of this historic time and event!!! Andrea, my vote today was for you!!!!

Your post filled my eyes with tears ~

What a fabulous mother you are!

Doesn't every mom want to be able to honestly say "you can do anything you set your mind to" to their child? And here is a momentous day that you can point to, for your child!

Sue, this is a beautiful sentiment. I got goose bumps from reading your words and thinking about their meaning. It really was a remarkable night, wasn't it? I'm so happy for your daughter and every other young person in this country that can see what matters is what's inside your heart and mind, not your skin. We live in a country with a long history of racism and inequality that has included discrimination on the basis of not only color but also gender, disability, and sexual orientation. This election was one big step forward toward an equal human kind. You are so right -- it's a marvelous thing to be a part of!!
