Thursday Restaurant Review - Salut
I have no photos of our restuarant this week but still want to document our night out. I had promised Greg a beer making kit for his birthday. Wednesday night we decided to pick it up at Northern Brewer on Grand Avenue in St. Paul and then just find a spot to eat on Grand Avenue after buying the beer making kit. As we were driving along I spotted Salut and remembered that Andrew Zimmern had all good things to say about this restaurant recently opening in that location. Being fans of Andrew and St. Paul, we had to stop and give it a try! There was a huge outdoor patio with heaters so we decided to squeeze in one more outdoor meal this season. The menu said their Pomme Frites with Bearnaise sauce were voted "Best Fries in the Twin Cities" by the Mpls/St. Paul Magazine so of course I was going to try them!!!! To go along with the fries, I ordered "ZE French Onion Soup" Burger, which was a burger topped with caramelized onion, swiss cheese, side of onion broth and a huge helping of the hand-cut fries. It was all wonderful! Loved having a burger that I dipped like a french dip sandwich and all the onion flavor was so good! Greg had a plate of beefsteak tomatoes with a stuffed Mozerella cheese and basil with Balsamic Vinaigrette that was definately meant for more than one person. Add to the wonderful food the friendly wait staff, gorgeous patio seating with great people watching and a couple of Newcastles on tap and the evening was a success!!!! I'm so glad we stumbled across this little gem in St. Paul!
